Recently, I was working on a brand identity for a small artisanal bakery looking to refresh their packaging and digital presence. The brief called for something warm, approachable, and a little whimsical. That’s when I decided to test out Equipment, a handwritten display font I’d heard described as “cute and fun.”

Testing in Real Design Contexts: Logo, Packaging, and Web

On the web, Equipment shined in the homepage hero section. As a headline font, its personality came through clearly on larger screens. However, I noticed that on mobile, the more delicate strokes began to blur slightly, especially on lower-resolution displays. It reinforced the idea that this is best used as a display font or headline font, not for body text or small interface elements.

Strengths and Limitations: Where Equipment Shines (and Where It Doesn’t)

• Handmade shop branding and boutique packaging
• Social media headers and Instagram stories
• Logo designs for creative studios or lifestyle brands

• Long body text or editorial content
• Formal corporate branding or legal documents
• Small print applications like business card footers or product tags
• High-contrast environments like outdoor signage or low-resolution screens

It’s also important to note that Equipment is a Script Amp font, meaning it leans into the expressive side of script typography. While it has some alternates and ligatures, it doesn’t offer the same level of customization as a premium font with extended weights and multilingual support. For most small-scale branding uses, that’s fine—but if you’re designing a global brand or a complex editorial system, you may need something more robust.

Final Notes: Testing, Licensing, and Font Pairing Tips

• Different color palettes and background textures

Also, be sure to check the licensing. If you're using Equipment in a brand identity that will appear on merchandise, packaging, or templates for resale, confirm that the license allows for commercial use and redistribution. Many fonts, even in the Fonts category, have restrictions that can cause issues down the line.
